Arebesk is a home grown, mom owned luxury brand known for creating the first designer grip sock. Arebesk launched out of a garage with just enough funding to bring in one style, the Phish Net collection, and no budget left for marketing. After selling out in two local Los Angeles studios, studios around the world started demanding Arebesk, noticing our unique designs and unbeatable quality. 

Arebesk founder and pilates enthusiast Leana Shayefar received the inspiration for the company after falling in love with the pilates workout and struggling to find a grip sock that offered both style and traction.

Arebesk is the first grip sock to offer two half circle silicone patches on the ball and heel of the foot, as well as a silicone tab inside the heel of the sock. This patented design uses double the silicone of traditional grip socks, providing extra cushion, a more secure fit, and remarkable traction throughout long periods of use. Arebesk also pioneered our signature mesh drawstring wash bag, which protects the silicone grip in the wash cycle and is sold with every pair of Arebesk grip socks. 

As a company rooted in movement, our name Arebesk pays homage to the “arabesque,” a standard ballet step where the body is supported on one leg while the other leg sweeps backwards. As a step utilized in Pilates and other movement based workouts, it serves as a reminder of the diverse community of fitness enthusiasts we aim to serve with our products.

At the age of 20, I moved from a small town to a big city with high hopes of making an impact in the fashion industry- with little money and lots of ideas.

My first attempt to sell accessories was cut short by a lot of rejection by local stores. I took my ideas to larger corporations, and I got my first big purchase order with Charlotte Russe. While that was a great stepping stone, it was not enough and my path moving forward was met with a lot of obstacles, dishonesty, and disappointments. I promised myself I would work hard and learn everything about this industry, with the hopes that one day I'd see my designs and hard work pay off. I gave up on my dreams somewhere along the way, settled down, had kids, and fell into the mom trap that many moms do.

I woke up one morning and realized I was not happy, and the only person that could change that was me. I signed up for pilates and instantly fell in love. Pilates strengthened my mind and body and reawakened my desire to create. From this came the inspiration to design high quality grip socks accompanied by a sock wash bag, and Arebesk was born.
